Do you represent a museum, foundation, art centre, heritage site, gallery, university or cultural institution?
The Association Les Amis de GRATALOUP works with institutions wishing to present, study or introduce audiences to the painter’s work, in France and internationally.
Projects may take the form of a monographic or thematic exhibition, a dialogue with a particular site or its architecture, a lecture, an encounter or a research project.
Paintings, works on paper, matrices, objects, major series and archives provide a rich basis for developing projects suited to very different spaces, programmes and audiences.
IMAGINING AN EXHIBITION
An exhibition can be based on an existing project or developed entirely in collaboration with the host institution.
Host an existing exhibition
Several exhibitions developed and presented at Musée GRATALOUP can be adapted to a new venue. Their curatorial concept, selection of works, visitor journey and interpretive content form an already structured project that can be explored through the virtual exhibitions.
The exhibition is adapted while preserving its identity and the essential elements of its original presentation. Adjustments mainly concern the layout and number of works, according to the spaces and technical requirements of the host venue.
The videos, podcasts and sound-and-light installation created for the exhibition can also be reused and adapted to the available facilities.
Develop a project with your team
An exhibition can also be created specifically for your institution, based on the characteristics of the venue, its history or a theme connected with its programme.
The exhibition concept, selection of works and their presentation are then developed in collaboration with your team.
Where appropriate, archives and audio, audiovisual or interactive content can complement the exhibition and provide a deeper understanding of the work.
THREE PROJECTS, THREE CONTEXTS
These exhibitions illustrate the diversity of projects that can be developed around GRATALOUP’s work: a major international exhibition, a dialogue with a historic monument, or a thematic exhibition presented in dialogue with another artist.
RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPING A PROJECT

The preparation of an exhibition can draw on several complementary resources:
the documented body of work and the catalogue raisonné currently in progress, providing information on works, techniques, periods and exhibition histories;
the major series and matrices, which can provide the basis for a coherent exhibition built around a theme, an artistic exploration or a particular period;
the artist’s archives, including photographs, texts, audiovisual documents and materials relating to the creation of the works;
catalogues, critical texts and exhibition archives, contributing to scholarly documentation and interpretation;
GRATALOUP’s monumental works, which can inform projects exploring the relationship between his work, architecture and public space.
These resources can support the selection of works, help define the direction of the project and contribute to the preparation of content for different audiences.
INCLUDE A LECTURE OR ENCOUNTER IN THE PROJECT
Milena GRATALOUP
A lecture can accompany an exhibition, introduce audiences to it in advance, or provide a first encounter with GRATALOUP’s work.
Milena Cheynet de Beaupré, GRATALOUP’s wife and President of the Association Les Amis de GRATALOUP, worked alongside the artist for several decades. She has contributed to the organisation of numerous exhibitions, the publication of catalogues and the development of exhibitions at Musée GRATALOUP.
She offers illustrated lectures devoted to the painter’s life, work and artistic research.

Other topics can be developed in relation to the exhibition, venue or intended audience. Events can take the form of an illustrated lecture, a discussion with the audience, a presentation during an exhibition opening, or a lecture held in advance of an exhibition.
They can be offered in French or English, in person or online.

Tell us about the initial outline of your project, even if it has not yet been fully defined. This information will allow us to assess its possibilities and prepare an initial discussion.
Once the request has been reviewed, an initial discussion will help define the scope of the project. A tailored proposal can then be prepared according to the institution, venue and works under consideration.
The terms of implementation and budget are defined with the Association. Costs relating to hosting and delivering the project are borne by the host institution, according to the terms set out in the proposal.
