PUBLIC ART

Monumental works hold an important place in GRATALOUP’s artistic practice. From 1977 onwards, the painter brought his visual language into architecture and public space through mosaic, stained glass, ceramics and tapestry.

One of the most significant of these projects is the Tour Galilée at Paris-La Défense. GRATALOUP conceived a monumental work covering nearly 800 m², entirely executed in mosaic. From its conception to its installation, the project took more than two years to complete. GRATALOUP drew the full-scale design himself in the great hall of the ENS Cachan.

His first monumental work dates from 1977, with a vast mosaic pavement in Valbonne Sophia Antipolis. Other works followed in public spaces, bringing colour, light and symbolism into the heart of architecture.
