SURFS

With Milena, GRATALOUP regularly goes to Lacanau-Océan, on the Atlantic coast, not far from Bordeaux, where her family has a holiday residence.

He will discover a sport that was previously unknown to him, surfing. Very impressed by the strength and height of the waves placing man in his humble condition, he will create a series of canvases on the theme of surfing.

Here, the symbolic significance of the theme is once again very present, marked by the use of gold leaf and writing, as well as by the presence of light rays surrounding the surfer in a chromatic harmony.

For years, surf will always be a great source of inspiration for GRATALOUP. He produced a large number of works on this theeme, including many watercolours.

"With this sport, the drama is always present. The surfer must defeat the wave and in harmony, leave with it to overcome it in its strength and its beauty."
