PALM TREES IN MEDICIS VILLA

At the time, I was very influenced by American painters who worked on large formats. Through this series of «Palmiers à la Villa Médicis», I wanted to pay tribute to Claude Monet, through the flows of painting and the infinitude of the subject. In the paint drips, the colors mix without mixing. They secrete new colors independent of the will of the painter but always amazing.

I incorporated rips into these canvases to signify gestural expressionism, little known at the time."
