1980 - 1990 MOSQUEE WALL

It is thanks to the Alliance Française and a friend of the E.N.S that GRATALOUP will create a monumental mosaic for the mosque of Sophia-Antipolis.

On the occasion of this work, he is confronted with a number of difficulties resulting from the Shari'a: no figures or representations, even symbolic, of plant life. Grataloup will then resort to geometric concepts, using the usual themes of arabesque but interpreting them in a succession and an interweaving of hexagons, octagons, squares, triangles, reformulated and transformed into polymorphic geometries, hold or seem to hold of chance.

The mosaic will be composed of elements that dominate the green of Islam and the blue of the dome.

There are two canvases from his research work. In 1990, GRATALOUP worked on the rubbing of his research work for the mosque wall.
