With Living Body, the Musée GRATALOUP explored one of the most universal themes in the history of art: the body as an expression of life, movement, energy, and the human condition.

Presented as part of the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad, the exhibition brought together the works of GRATALOUP and sculptor Antoinette Rozan in a unique dialogue between painting, sculpture, and space. Conceived by Milena Cheynet de Beaupré, the exhibition offered an immersive experience in which the works of both artists interacted throughout the historic setting of the Prieuré Saint-Saturnin.

Inside the chapel, GRATALOUP presented a selection of paintings devoted to the great stages of human existence. Birth, love, transmission, spirituality, aging, and death formed a vast symbolic narrative in which human figures became silent witnesses to the journey of life. Archetypal characters, moving silhouettes, and enigmatic presences populated his canvases, revealing a universe where the visible constantly engages in dialogue with the invisible.

In the garden, the monumental sculptures and calligraphic works of Antoinette Rozan extended this reflection through themes of movement, freedom, energy, and joy. Her figures appear to defy gravity, celebrating the human capacity to overcome limitations and embrace life with optimism and strength.

A natural and sensitive dialogue emerged between the works of the two artists. GRATALOUP’s painted figures and Antoinette Rozan’s sculpted forms seemed to meet beyond time and space, offering visitors a poetic reflection on the forces that animate all living beings.

Awarded the Cultural Olympiad label, the exhibition enjoyed significant public success and reinforced the Musée GRATALOUP’s mission of bringing together heritage, contemporary creation, and the major questions of our time. Through this celebration of the body in motion and the vital energy that inhabits it, Living Body invited visitors to rediscover both the beauty and the fragility of existence.
