In 1972, GRATALOUP participated in Impact II, a major group exhibition organized by the Museum of Modern Art of Céret. Following the landmark exhibition Impact I held in 1966, this event formed part of the museum’s ongoing commitment to promoting the most innovative developments in contemporary artistic creation.

At the time, the Museum of Modern Art of Céret had already established itself as one of the leading institutions of the French artistic avant-garde. Heir to a tradition associated with Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, and the many artists who helped make Céret a major center of European modernism, the museum pursued an ambitious exhibition program dedicated to emerging artistic movements and new generations of creators.

GRATALOUP’s participation in Impact II came at a formative stage in his career. At thirty-seven years old, he was developing the foundations of the distinctive visual language that would later characterize his work.
