In 2013, GRATALOUP took part in 100 Bricks for Madagascar, a charitable initiative organized by renowned gallerist Enrico Navarra in support of Écoles du Monde, a non-profit organization dedicated to building schools and developing educational programs in Madagascar.

The project brought together one hundred contemporary artists, each invited to transform an ordinary construction brick into a unique work of art. As a universal symbol of building, transmission, and hope, the brick became the starting point for a wide range of artistic interpretations, all created in support of a common humanitarian cause.

For this occasion, GRATALOUP created an artwork entitled The Prophet’s Tent. Drawing upon one of the recurring themes of his artistic universe, the artist transformed the original brick into a symbolic evocation of nomadic civilizations, cultural memory, and the fragility of human achievements in the face of time. Through this creation, the brick ceased to be a simple building material and became a metaphor for knowledge, spirituality, and transmission.

The work echoes the monumental installation The Prophet’s Tent, previously presented in Germany as part of GRATALOUP’s exhibition in Leverkusen. As in the earlier installation, the artist reflects on permanence and impermanence, history and culture, while highlighting the responsibility of present generations toward future ones.

Displayed alongside works by one hundred internationally recognized artists, The Prophet’s Tent was exhibited and subsequently offered for sale during the charity auction held by Artcurial at the Hôtel Marcel Dassault in Paris on 13 May 2013. All proceeds from the event were dedicated to supporting educational projects in Madagascar, giving the artwork both an artistic and humanitarian dimension.

Through his participation in this initiative, GRATALOUP reaffirmed his conviction that art extends beyond exhibition spaces and can actively contribute to projects of education, transmission, and social engagement. In this context, The Prophet’s Tent stands as both a work of art and a symbol of solidarity, demonstrating how creativity can serve a broader collective purpose.
