OUT OF SERIES PAINTINGS

In 1951, GRATALOUP rented an old grocery store, l'Economique, which he made his workshop.

At that time, he took evening classes in a Beaux Arts annex at the Saint Jean college in Lyon. 

It is from the window of the apartment he occupies with his mother, rue Etienne Richerand, that he will make the same year, his first painting. She  represents the roofs of the velvet factory of Milena's grandfather, whom he will meet in Paris 40 years later, and whom he will marry in 1991.
