SACRED INSPIRATIONS

For GRATALOUP, art is close to the sacred. He tries to ward off, to tame the primitive energy through forms and color. He questions the materials of the cosmos, the earth, the stone, the metal, the wood, the sand in which the spirit blows.

Each of his works testifies to this spiritual aspiration. Painting is a way of questioning life, of deciphering its meaning beyond its visible part or a conveniently materialistic reading of the world.
