1960- 1968 ECOLE DES BEAUX-ARTS PARIS AND PRIX DE ROME

Grataloup moved in with Agneta in one of the maid rooms of a large apartment belonging to the Menthon family, located at 50, rue Jacob, in Saint-Germain des Prés. His room overlooks the workshops of the National School of Fine Arts where Grataloup has just entered, in the workshop of Roger Chapelain Midy. The Menthon family receives many artists.
With the Menthon family, Grataloup sometimes stays in Roussillon where the family rents a house. He will keep very happy memories of this period of life and will make many works on these landscapes of life.

In June 1967, under the dome of the Institut de France and to the sound of the drum rolls of the Republican Guard, – this was the protocol – Grataloup received his Prix de Rome from the hands of Julien Cain, a senior official and general administrator of the Bibliothèque Nationale.

This year will mark the last instalment of the «Prix de Rome» as always organized, including a work of studies in « small and big lodges ».

"On that day, sitting among the immortals in the front row, was Giorgio de Chirico" ...
