1978 - 1985- VEGETAL AWAKENING
At that time, GRATALOUP divided his time between his Parisian studio and his house in Seine-et-Marne, where Frances lived with his children, Julien and Anthony.
After the Awakening of the Mineral, he will begin a series of canvases on the theme of the Awakening of the Vegetable.
This series will be produced in his small Parisian studio. Considering the large dimensions of the canvases of this series, he will use the technique of carrying the same canvas, but with different colors. A fold will occur with each postponement.
The theme used is identical to that of the tapestry made in Aubusson for the church of Ajaccio; the plants covering the garden of her cousin Francine in Ajaccio. The nimbus stabilizes these sets in its symbolic but also visual dimension.
"After the "Awakening of the Mineral", it went without saying that it was that of the "Vegetable". It was a matter of making large canvases in order to find oneself in a green ensemble. Also, from a compound plant, I recompose it by superimposing it several times and, each time, a fold appears. So this plant may have no end."
