I knew the work of Grataloup for years when chance made me meet him and we very quickly decided to present his paintings at the gallery.This was done in 1998 where many landscapes but also matrices played on the duality form-matter.
The book takes up his previous work, but shows the latest paintings where the human figure takes on increasing importance with new materials such as stainless steel or brass.This relationship that Grataloup always maintains with the material is declined over the canvases and as asked Michel Tournier "What is matter?It is a homogeneous space full and therefore substantially unintelligible. [...] Matter is defeated [...] Grataloup lies beyond form and matter".
It is all this dialectic that I thought it important to make understand and I hope that this book will be a testimony to it.
